From the Desk of President

Nandita Palshetkar

Good evening friends, mentors and fellow doctors. I am truly humbled, blessed and privileged to stand before you this evening, as the President of IAGE (Indian Association of Gynecological Endoscopists). I am truly delighted for the trust that you have reposed in me.

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes – Marcel Proust. Endoscopy today is our new eyes into our patient.

Bill Gates has said that India is a superpower. And I think it applies best to us. India: An Endoscopic Superpower – We are clever, innovative, skillful, hardworking and tech savvy.

ART & Endoscopy represents a synergy. Both of them are required to achieve the results in an infertile couple & thus my passion in both the fields was aroused.

My Theme for the year is Endoscopic training - investing in the future– Teach, encourage, instruct, mentor, praise, influence, guide & inspire.

It has been quite a journey and there are many people who were my pillars along the way. I must take some of your time to acknowledge the immeasurable contributions that they have made to my life.

I thank my family, my husband, mother, father, my father-in-law, son and my daughter-in-law who have showered me with their unending and unconditional support.

Thank you to those selfless givers of knowledge, my mentors and teachers. Thank you for the values that you have taught me and hopefully, I have learnt and imbibed.

My mentors Dr K K Deshmukh, Dr. Purandare and Dr. Lopez were instrumental in my education.Thank you for inspiring me I am here today because of your confidence in me.

To Dr. Hrishikesh Pai and my team and all my colleagues – thank you for being there for me and pushing me to succeed to the highest of our potential and best of our ability. You have helped me to set high standards for myself, and achieve my goals and dreams.

I accept this post with great humility and am grateful to all the people whose support is the reason I am up here right now. What we have accomplished together has made a difference to hundreds of human lives... and yet I hope that everyone is hungry and ready for more.

Lets roll up our sleeves and continue this journey with more dedication than ever.

We plan to have 5 regional conferences & 10 workshops. We have also tied up with the government and FPAI to train government doctors and private practioners in laparoscopic sterilization. We plan to release handbook of endoscopy & newsletter IAGE Mirror.

The future of any organization rests with its youth. I would like to start an IAGE youth council. So that the office bearers and the managing council can mentor and shape them into future leaders.

I have realized that I have such a huge wealth of knowledge at my disposal, you my colleagues… and that is something that we must return to the society. A lot of gynecologists do a lot of charity work, and I feel like we can make a tangible mark out of this, if we do it collectively. We need to show the world that we care.

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the tremendous initiatives that were undertaken by the previous Presidents and office bearers of this body. Wow… such big shoes to fill and legacies to preserve… Indeed you are all an inspiration, a challenge and an avenue for us to continue doing the good work that you began and I will honour.

I am grateful to have, by my side, as Secretary Dr Sunita Tandulwadkar, whose meticulous nature and deep knowledge of the constitution will keep me on the straight path and help execute the dreams of this dreamer!

I am certain with the team that we have, we shall achieve all our objectives with aplomb. I have faith in us, and to all the members of IAGE, I want to say that this journey cannot be undertaken alone, but it is through your support, criticism, and encouragement that we shall have something to do, together.

Together, we shall continue to grow and together we can continue to advance our endoscopic skills and invest in the future.

Dr. Nandita Palshetkar, President
